Opening in theaters on August 3, 2011, the Raja Gosnell-directed film stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, Hank Azaria, Anton Yelchin, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, George Lopez, Paul Reubens, John Oliver, Kenan Thompson, B.J. Novak, Jeff Foxworthy, Wolfgang Puck, Gary Basaraba and Tim Gunn.

In the movie adaptation, evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world into ours – in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

  • This looks like someone took terrible, fed it a steady diet of awful, and then dressed it in worst idea ever.

  • When my sister and I were younger, we weren’t allowed to watch the Smurfs. Since there is only one female smurf, and a ton of other male smurfs — they must all mate with that ONE female. I think that freaked her out. (or it might have been another reason – but it really makes you think.)

      • Actually, Smurfette was created by Gargamel as part of a nefarious plan to infiltrate the smurfs, so how they breed is still open to question. My theory is that they grew from spores.
