CBS has announced that Grant Gustin’s Flash will be making his way to National City and crossing over into an episode of Supergirl. The episode is set to air on Monday, March 28th.
“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl—The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up!,” said The Flash and Supergirl Executive Producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. “We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros., and DC for working this out. And finally thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”
Fans have been begging for a crossover to happen between Supergirl and either Arrow or The Flash since the original announcement of the CBS series, although up until this news it seemed unlikely as the shows were on different networks. Perhaps the guest appearance by Matt Ryan’s John Constantine on Arrow helped to move the initiative forward.
So far, Supergirl has borrowed several concepts and storylines from Superman comics (Bizarro, For the Man Who Has Everything) just as Arrow has a history of borrowing characters and storylines from Batman comics. While I’m very excited for the crossover, I’m fearful that The Flash/Supergirl episode will be a modification of the Fastest Man Alive race storyline instead of something more original.
